Casey Turner
Casey is originally from Dallas, Texas. She began dancing at age two and proceeded to train in a variety of styles. Her professional training included Texas Ballet Theater School and the LINES Ballet Training Program, as well as summers at the Kirov Academy in Washington, DC, Joffrey Ballet School, Kaatsbaan Extreme Ballet, and Alonzo King LINES Ballet. She began her professional career in 2006 with Texas Ballet Theater, where she performed in multiple ballets choreographed by Artistic Director Ben Stevenson, OBE, including Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Dracula, Coppelia, The Nutcracker, Alice in Wonderland, and Cleopatra. She later moved to San Francisco as a freelance artist. During that time, she performed with Oakland Ballet Company and Copious Dance Theater and was a Principal Guest Artist with Western Ballet and Orinda Ballet Academy. Casey then spent 5 years as a Dancer and Dance Captain for Royal Caribbean International, performing jazz, ballroom, and musical theater productions on ships all around the world.
In the fall of 2018, Casey retired from performing and moved to Charlottesville. She has served as a faculty member at Charlottesville Ballet Academy and BalletSchool of Charlottesville and as the Resident Choreographer of the Charlottesville Opera, choreographing The Merry Widow (2022) and Guys & Dolls (2023). She is also a certified GYROTONIC® Instructor and owner of The Movement Barn. She has completed continuing education courses focusing on Applications for Dancers, Pathways of the Shoulders, Hips, and Spine, Applications for Osteoporosis, Pre and Post Natal Applications, and, most recently, the GYROKINESIS® Method. She is thrilled to be able to share her knowledge and experience with the growing Cumulus community!
